What is a pediatric dentist?

August 1st, 2019

Our team at Fairfield Pediatric Dentistry hears this question a lot. According to our friends at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), pediatric dentistry is “an age-defined specialty that provides both primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral healthcare for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special healthcare needs.”

Pediatric dentists, such as Dr. Brad Skelton and Dr. Richard Kennedy, are dedicated to the oral health of our young patients from infancy through their teen years. Our team at Fairfield Pediatric Dentistry has the experience and qualifications to care for your child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout his or her various stages of childhood.

Pediatric dentists complete at least four years of dental school, including an additional two additional years of residency training in dentistry for infants, children, teens, and children with special needs.

At Fairfield Pediatric Dentistry, we know children are not born with a fear of the dentist, but they can fear the unknown. And that is why Dr. Brad Skelton and Dr. Richard Kennedy and our team know how to examine and treat children in ways that make them relaxed and comfortable.

We are very excited to welcome you to our new website! Along with this website comes some other changes that some of our patients may have already noticed. We are pleased to announce that in order to accommodate the permanent addition of Dr. Skelton to our practice, we have changed our name! Our practice will now be called “Fairfield Pediatric Dentistry - Chew Chew Junction”. Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Skelton want you to know you can still, as always, expect great service at our practice. We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment and want you to know besides the name – we are still the same great office!
